The method involves providing a rain sensor at a vehicle, where the rain sensor detects whether raining occurs, and detects whether clamping protection is activated during raining with a lower counter acting force against a closing force than during dryness situation. A sensor is provided at the vehicle, where the sensor detects acceleration of the vehicle in three spatial directions for detecting a lateral impact. A comparator device is provided for comparing the detected acceleration for different spatial directions with acceleration-threshold values.
