The device (28) has a support body (29) positioned at a circumference of a printing cylinder similar to a printing form. Sensors (30) i.e. potentiometric sensor, are assigned to the support body at a circumferential position for measuring a gap between the printing cylinder and a roller e.g. color application roller, and/or a cylinder i.e. transfer cylinder, rolling on the printing cylinder. The sensors are provided in lateral end sections and in a central section to measure the respective gap over an axial extension. An independent claim is also included for a method for measuring spaces in a printing element of a printing machine.
