The method involves recording an image (4) of a X-ray picture of a single-layer packed bed (1) of high X-ray-absorptive objects i.e. balls (1a), for a definite acceleration voltage value of an X-ray tube using an image sensor. A ratio of a scatter band characteristic and an average characteristic in the image on an evaluation region (5) is determined. A tube characteristic value of the image is selected as a tube characteristic value for an optimal focusing of the tube with the acceleration voltage value, where the ratio is maximal for the tube characteristic value for focusing the tube. An independent claim is also included for an arrangement for implementing a method for determining a tube characteristic value for an optimal focusing of an X-ray tube.
