To generate nano- and sub-nano-second intense electron current pulses, we examined a modified double-layered tube which consisted of two pipes (supertrons): an inner Bi-based sintered and an outer Y-based melt-processed pipes. The pipes were each tapered oppositely, and the tube exit was made only from the melt-processed material. The experimental results revealed that the shortest pulse obtained was 2.4 ns at 70 K, longer than that of 1.4 ns obtained previously and that no melt-processed pipes should face such single nano-second electron pulses directly.
