The method involves utilizing a solar panel (5) for testing an electroluminescence process, as a reverse voltage applied to solar panels arrangement is high such that the solar panel emit light and is not damaged by the voltage. The light emitted by the arrangement is detected by a charge-coupled device (CCD) camera (3) that is sensitive in a wavelength range provided by the solar panel. The operability of the arrangement and a position of a defective solar panel and/or cablings are determined depending on a camera image. An independent claim is also included for an apparatus for executing a method for testing operability and a localization of defects of an arrangement of solar cells.
