The method involves operating exhaust valves (3, 4) in a phase-delayed manner with respect to one another for balancing different exhaust gas counter-pressure levels, where the exhaust valves are provided in a cylinder head of a cylinder (2) in an internal combustion engine (1) of a motor vehicle and attached to exhaust-gas turbochargers (7, 8). A part of the exhaust gas from the internal-combustion engine is guided to the exhaust-gas turbocharger.
