The vehicle (1) has a hybrid drive comprising a drive section with an internal combustion engine (5) and an electrical machine (7). A battery (11) is provided for storing and supplying energy to loads of an electrical system. The battery is connected with the electrical machine by a pulse-controlled inverter (10). A diagnosis device (2) detects operating characteristics of the electrical machine, the pulse-controlled inverter and/or signal lines. The diagnosis device controls operating characteristics such as speed, of the combustion engine during failure of components. An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling a motor vehicle.
