The device has a set of circuit elements, and a control element (U1) for operating the circuit elements. A supply current is led across switch elements connected into a row, and a light e.g. LED light (L1), to be controlled is operated parallel to the circuit elements. The control element outputs a control signal for controlling the supply current, where the control element switches off the supply current, if the circuit elements are closed. The control element has a monitoring device that monitors operations of the light based on voltages detected by voltage sensors. An independent claim is also included for a signal generator for a light signal system, comprising a set of lights.
