The mold (1) is completely filled with molten metal. Following an initial short cooling interval, a gap arises through shrinkage, between mold and molding (4). This gap is exploited. Pressurized gaseous coolant is blown into it. The gas escapes through gaps or openings provided. The mold, in two halves, includes gas injection holes (5, 6) from the exterior to the inner, contour-forming wall. External line connections to the holes admit gaseous coolant. At the inner sides of the bores, on the contour-forming wall, a gas injection device is provided, e.g. nozzles, a grid or sintered metal gas distributor. In addition to, or instead of the cooling arrangements described, coolant gas connection is made through holes into cavities left when mold slides or molding ejectors are withdrawn. An independent claim IS INCLUDED FOR corresponding molding equipment.
