The method involves determining temperature of clutch plates, where a friction clutch includes clutch plates, central plate and/or pressure plate. A temperature gradient is determined at an inner side of the respective clutch plate. An actual adjusting characteristic line (3, 4) is determined based on already stored characteristic line for controlling the friction clutch based on the determined data and/or a temperature model. Deformation of the respective clutch plate is determined from the temperature and/or the temperature gradient.
