The method involves checking whether a combustion engine (B) is stopped. A separation clutch (T) is opened for switching on or switching off an electric machine (E). An associated drive train component is removed indirectly. The separation clutch is partially closed in a given speed range of the drive train component. Reduction in the rotation speed of the drive train component is determined over a predetermined time. A clutch moment is determined based on the determined reduction in the rotation speed. Characteristics of the separation clutch are adapted based on the determined clutch moment. The drive train component is a transmission input shaft of a dual clutch transmission. An independent claim is also included for a device for adapting characteristics of a separation clutch in a vehicle hybrid power train.
