The method involves switching an user interface (2) between two configurations, where the configurations activate different senses e.g. visual and/or audio and/or a kinesthetic senses, of a user i.e. passenger, in a distinctive manner, by using an optical detection device (4) for detection of a line of sight of the user. A preferential sense is evaluated in dependence of the seized line of sight, and the configuration of the user interface is adjusted to the estimated sense. Word selection of an acoustic output is adapted to an estimated sense channel. An independent claim is also included for a device for adjusting a user interface in a motor vehicle.
