A water correction algorithm was derived to improve seafloor mapping using hyperspectral satellite imagery by removing overlying water. This water correction algorithm uses pixel values of two distinct substrates at two different depths to derive depth-dependent water scattering and absorption. A Graphical User Interface (GUI) was developed using Interactive Data Language (IDL) to provide the prospective users with a user friendly interface, which can be used to perform a water correction configuration of hyperspectral remote sensing images taken over shallow estuarine waters. Users of the GUI can choose four sampling pixels from the given hyperspectral image, representing two types of homogenous substrates at two known depths to administer the water correction process to the entire water area pixels. The water correction GUI tool has the capability to process different types of hyperspectral raster data, and can be easily implemented with updated water correction equations into the water correction algorithm with minimum modifications. The purpose of developing this water correction GUI is to incorporate the water correction algorithm into a user friendly software that can process large amount of data systematically. The water correction GUI can provide aids to users in performing tedious tasks and help reduce user input errors and thus increase productivity and data accuracy. The water correction GUI tool can be used as a scientific research tool in the future in remote sensing studies.
