The method involves simulating an impact of a vehicle on an obstacle according to actual deceleration values. A pitch motion of the vehicle arising before the impact is simulated by rotation of a test object around a horizontal axis. The test object is vertically moved within a front and/or rear region. The test object is rotated by independently controllable translation movements in the front and rear region around the horizontal axis that is freely selectable between the translation movements.
