The device (1) has a clamping part (3) relative-movably supported at a base part (2). A main operating energy accumulator (5) and an auxiliary energy accumulator (6) are connected in a row. The clamping part is supplied with energy by the accumulators. The main accumulator is movable up to a predetermined maximum within an operating area by operating forces of a rotating drive. The auxiliary accumulator exhibits spring stiffness larger than a spring stiffness of the main accumulator. The auxiliary accumulator is deflected within the operating area by operating forces of the drive. An independent claim is also included for an operating method for a rotating drive clamping device for clamping a rotating drive of an engine.
