The method involves supplying parameterized data to a database (2), where the data describes characteristics during electrostatic discharge. The data is assigned to circuit components of an integrated circuit, and the circuit components in a signal path of the circuit are detected. The data assigned to the circuit components are retrieved from the database, and a parameter value for the signal path is determined under usage of the parameterized data, where the parameter value characterizes a discharge resistance between connection points of the circuit. An independent claim is also included for a system for checking an electrostatic discharge-characteristic of an integrated circuit during a designing stage.
