The method involves transmitting data stored on a radio frequency identification tag (8) to a vehicle-internal radio frequency identification reader (4) with radio waves. The data is transmitted from the reader to a vehicle-internal optical free jet transceiver (5). The data is converted into an optical signal in the vehicle-internal optical free jet transceiver and radiated to an external optical free jet transceiver (7) of a data detection station (3). The radio frequency identification tag is supplied with energy by the reader. An independent claim is also included for a device for transmission of data of a vehicle to a data detection station.
