The method for determining fuel quality in diesel engines comprises altering the setting of the glow plugs when the engine is running in prescribed conditions, especially when idling. Any alteration in the running of the engine is then used as a measure of the fuel quality. Independent claims are included for: (A) a computer program for use in the method and (B) a control unit for use in it.
