The method involves winding a detachable opening (4) of a partly unwound material roller (2) by rotating the material roller. A roller carrier (3) is positioned into a fixing position, and an adhesive tape dispenser (7) is positioned close to the material roller. The dispenser is employed to the material roller in a winding direction, and the material roller is rotated for the attachment of an adhesive tape (8) to the material roller, where the material roller is turned around 360 degrees after employing the dispenser and before the tape is cut off. An independent claim is also included for a device for automatic roller opening adjustment of a partly unwound material roller on a roller carrier in a roll changer, comprising a transfer table.
