The unit (10) has a retractor module (16) mounted in fastening units, and a belt strap (12) retracted on a rotatable mounted spindle. An evaluation and control unit (22) determines force (F) working on the belt strap by evaluation of physical parameters detected by a measuring device (20) during a crash. The measuring device is designed as I-bolt unit and detects the physical parameters in the retractor module and in the fastening units. The measuring device comprises hall-elements serving as measuring value sensors and hall sensors serving as measuring value recorders. An independent claim is also included for a method for retracting a belt strap.
