The method involves providing cost-guided regulation of usage of a set of heat sources (2-4) e.g. boiler, by assigning differential pressure reference values to pumps (6-8) of the heat sources. The reference values are cost-specifically shifted in relation to differential pressure basic reference values of the pumps. A regulating loop for compensating the differential pressure at a sensor (14) is formed from actual values of the differential pressure at the sensor in comparison with the respective shifted reference values of the pumps, and positions of the pumps.
