The watchdog (1) has an output (4) for accepting output signals produced by a microcontroller or an integrated circuit i.e. application-specific integrated circuit, of a switching device i.e. low-voltage switching device, where the output is designed for connection to an alternate output (5) of the switching device. The alternate output is designed as a hardware interface. A decoupling unit is connected to a charge pump designed as a Greinacher circuit (2), which includes capacitors (C2, C3) and diodes (V1, V2). Arrangement of the watchdog together with another watchdog is in cascade form.
