The brake has a brake caliper (20) with a brake pad working together with a brake disk (14), where the brake caliper is firmly connected with a housing of a wind turbine, and the brake disk is firmly connected with a drum of the turbine. A brush (22) is fixedly arranged concerning to the brake caliper and has a brush edge, which is in contact with the brake disk and is fastened at a brush body (24). An axis of rotation of the brush body is arranged parallel to a plane of the brake disk and diagonal to a radial direction of the brush body. The brush edge has bristles made of brass or polyamide. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a wind turbine.
