The method involves identifying a fingerprint of patient (39) and a digital fingerprint (47) during preparation of a patient (33). An immobilizing screen (55) assigned to the patient is determined by assignment which is stored in a processing unit (43). A signal indicating the determined screen to an operator (41) is outputted. An image of the patient is stored in the processing unit, is assigned to the fingerprints and is presented to the operator. The screen is identified by radio frequency identification (RFID)-identifiers (59) attached at the screen. An independent claim is also included for a medical installation comprising a device for detecting patient specific characteristic.
