The method involves storing a primary image section of a primary image of an image sequence in a primary buffer memory. A secondary image section of a secondary image of the image sequence is stored in a secondary intermediate memory, where positions of the image sections in the images have a reciprocal offset that is dependent on an item of motion information. A primary image block (B1-i-1) in the primary image section and a secondary image block (B2-i) in the secondary image section are determined using a motion vector, and contents of the image blocks are compared.
