The gear (1) has a housing provided with a lower housing part (3), which is filled up with gear oil up to a certain height. A gear wheel (2) e.g. crown wheel, is arranged in the housing and is dipped into an oil sump upto a certain dipped depth. An oil supporting device (4) limits the supply of the gear oil from the oil sump to the gear wheel during operation of the gear, where the oil supporting device is partially dipped into the oil sump. The oil supporting device is a tank-like element similar to a bicycle shield, which is extended over a certain circumference of the gear wheel.
