The cover (1) has a flexible covering element i.e. flexible tarpaulin (5), which is extendably accommodated in a retainer (6) of a rear seat (2) and is fastened to a bottom storage shelf (3) i.e. back shelf. The covering element is movable from the retainer depending on a gap dimension (deltaL) and is retracted in the retainer. A clamping element i.e. helical spring (8), is provided in an area of the retainer for clamping the covering element, where the clamping element is a linearly operating clamping element. The spring consists of flexible textile.
