The method involves producing a raw gas (10) from a synthesis gas produced from gasification of biomass (8). The raw gas is cleaned and thermally separated into a hydrogenous work gas (6) and a residual gas (16), where the residual gas is used for the current or heat production. The hydrogenous work gas is supplied to a fossil raw material (4), where the fossil raw material is refined under addition of hydrogenous work gas. The hydrogenous work gas is mixed with the fossil raw material and the mixture is refined to a fuel (2).
