The device has a closed gas cooling chamber provided with a narrow transmission channel (5), where wall surfaces (6) are provided in the transmission channel. The wall surfaces interfuse only a part of a cross-section of the transmission channel. The wall surfaces are formed by cooling tubes, and have light spiral shape in a longitudinal direction. A cooled chamfer for collecting waste is provided at a lower end of the wall surfaces in a direction of gravity, and transfers the waste from a quenching space (9).
