The lamp (10) has a cold cathode lamp (14), a temperature sensor (46) and a lamp control device (42) for controlling the cold cathode lamp. The lamp control device is connected with the temperature sensor and causes a start delay before igniting the cold cathode lamp, when the temperature detected by the temperature sensor is below a certain temperature threshold value. The sensor detects the temperature within a closed housing (12) of the lamp. The control device stops the start delay and ignites the cold cathode lamp, when the detected temperature exceeds the threshold value.
