The engine (10) has a nitrogen supplying device for supplying nitrogen, and a nitrogen production device for producing the nitrogen and/or a nitrogen storage device for discharging stored nitrogen. Nitrogen inlets (26a-26d) supply the nitrogen into combustion air for the engine and are connected with the nitrogen supplying device. The nitrogen inlets are arranged upstream to a compressor (20) that is provided in an intake system (16) of the engine. One of the nitrogen inlets is arranged upstream to an intercooler (24). An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling an operation of a supercharged internal-combustion engine.
