The device (1) has a holding device (6) accommodating a material layer (4) e.g. thermoplastic foil. Layers (2, 3) of heat production devices i.e. radiators (5) e.g. UV-radiators, delivering heat are arranged such that the heat is propagated in a direction of a region of the holding device in which the material layer extends. The radiators are adjustable in a radiation direction by an adjusting device. The radiators are arranged on opposite sides of the material layer, where a direction of the heat propagation is aligned transverse to a distribution of a surface extension of the material layer. An independent claim is also included for a method for treating a material layer.
