The device has two transport elements (1) for moving the vouchers (2). A sensor (7) is provided to detect position and angle of the vouchers during their alignment in a contact free manner. The sensor is provided with a light emitting diode or a laser diode, an optical sensor element and a microprocessor. The microprocessor calculates the position of the voucher from the difference between the light emitted by the light emitting diode or laser diode and the light detected by the optical sensor element. An independent claim is included for a method for aligning vouchers during transport along a voucher conveying line.
