A traction system of the undercarriage has an electric motor (1) arranged inside a telescopic axle tube (2) of an undercarriage axle (7). The electric motor has a cooling jacket and drives rail wheels (5) that are connected with the axle tube. The traction system has a central electrical energy supply unit including an internal combustion engine and a generator. The motor, the axle tube, a gearbox (3), and a wheel bearing (6) are arranged on the axle.
