There is provided a method for producing an active material for a lithium secondary battery to enable efficient removal of iron impurities which might become a problem in the production of the active material for the lithium secondary battery, and to obtain a high quality. The method includes removing iron impurities in an active material for a lithium secondary battery by magnetic force. In this method, the use of a magnetic force generating device within a recessed portion constituting at least a part of the recessed portion enables efficient removal of only iron impurities. In this way, it is expected that a voltage drop caused by dissolution of iron compounds, that is, impurities in the positive electrode, and their migration to the negative electrode in a battery, and decreases in charge and discharge capability as well as a voltage drop due to the deposition of lithium can be suppressed.
