The method involves locally reinforcing a partial area of a foil e.g. elastic foil, by detachable connection with an element, and gripping the reinforced area by a robotic gripping tool. The foil is applied on a component surface by the gripping tool, and the reinforcement element is removed from the partial area. The foil is extended after reaching the reinforced partial area in given directions, and the foil is heated up when being extended. The foil is moistened with a solvent, before application and pressed at the surface slightly during application by a robotically guided scraper.
