The method involves receiving a mass air flow signal having a frequency that varies based on mass air flow in an intake manifold of engine and measuring the period of the mass air flow signal for every cycle. The period data is converted to mass data of mass air flow. The period data and the mass data for N events is stored (N is an integer). The overall mass airflow is determined based on the stored mass data and period data. An independent claim is included for control system for engine.
