The map material (K) is divided into multiple segments (T1, T2) that are stored on respective storage mediums (S1, S2) e.g. DVDs. A complete address database (A) and a complete main road network (H) of the map material are stored on each storage medium. The segments of the map material, the complete address database and complete main road network are read using a storage medium reading unit. An address input of a destination from the address database is made independent of the read segments of the map material. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a navigation system comprising a receiving unit (2) a navigation method for utilization in a navigation system.
