The method involves driving a coated paper web through press gaps (11.1, 11.2), where the press gaps are formed from respective soft and hard rollers (9, 10). The rollers are provided with a hard surface and a soft surface, respectively. A side of the paper web which comes in the press gaps against the roller (9) is moistened using steam, fog or water by a humidifier (7). A plate is provided below a pipe, and is inclined towards the paper web in a running direction. An independent claim is also included for a device for calendering a coated printing paper.
