The system (200) has an energy source including operating characteristic, and an inverter subsystem (208) coupled to the energy source, where the subsystem drives an alternating current (AC) electric traction motor (202). Another energy source includes operating characteristic that is different from former characteristic. An inverter subsystem (210) drives the AC electric traction motor. A controller (212) is coupled to the inverter subsystems, and influences operation of the inverter subsystems to manage power transfer among the energy sources and the AC electric traction motor.
