In a manufacturing process to press automotive body parts (1) made of sheet steel (5) incorporating martensite, a body panel is pre-formed cold by deep-drawing and then tempered in the range 300[deg] C 600[deg] C. The warm panel is then pressed into the final shape. The martensite phase achieves a deformable condition in the tempering stage. The pre-tempered cold, semi-finished body part is removed from the press prior to tempering in an oven, followed by final press operation in hot condition.
