The vehicle (10) has two axles (18, 20) e.g. double axles, and a measuring unit (28) including a range sensor (36) and measuring an axle load (32) of the axle (18) during stopping of the vehicle. The axle (20) is lowerable and liftable within a predetermined time period by a control unit (34) e.g. electronic control unit, depending on a predetermined threshold value and the axle load and independent of the axle load when the axle load exceeds the threshold value and the vehicle does not exceed a predetermined speed. The control unit controls the lifting and lowering of the axle (20).
