The device has an applicator (1) for providing image type coating of a printing sheet using an adhesive. A coating unit (2) is provided for transferring imaging layers from a transfer film (5) to a printing sheet. The coating unit has a counter printing cylinder (4) and a press roll (3) forming a common transfer gape (6). The transfer film is guided around the press roll. The applicator has an adhesive supply device for supplying the adhesive, and an adhesive reservoir in connection with a squeegee device i.e. chamber wiper (61).
