The stand (PS) has an automation unit (AE) i.e. man-machine interface, for executing a testing program, and a vehicle electric box (FEB) provided in the stand. The electric box has an interface (S1) to the automation unit and another interface (S2) to a test sample (P) e.g. motor control device, where the test sample is automatically detected by the vehicle electric box. A third interface (S3) is provided to a sensor (S) or an actuator (A) or an operating element (B) of a motor vehicle. The automation unit is connected with a data processing device (DVE). Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for operating a test stand (2) a method for detection of a communication topology.
