The flow element i.e. filter (275), has a flow profile with a flow resistance for a fluid in a fluid flow path. The flow resistance varies in a direction perpendicular to a movement direction of the fluid in the fluid flow path. The flow profile is arranged to compensate a flow path profile in an area of the flow path, where the flow path profile represents the flow resistance within the area of the flow path varying in the direction perpendicular to the movement direction of the fluid. The flow profile is arranged opposite to the flow path profile. An independent claim is also included for a high performance liquid chromatography system comprising a pump and a flow element.
