The separator (1) has a filter element (8) i.e. exchangeable trap cartridge, comprising a filtering medium (9) i.e. metallic fibrous web, for cleaning gas, and an electrical heating device for heating the filtering medium. The heating device has an electrical heating element (15) i.e. positive temperature coefficient element, arranged in a good heat conducting, mechanical connector to the filter element or the medium. The thermal heat produced by the heating element is controllable by the connector through thermal conduction from the heating element to the filter element and/or medium.
