The air bag (1) has a blown shoulder area (11) which extends into the blown condition of the air bag at a height of a shoulder region of the vehicle passenger (2) to be protected. The shoulder area is provided, such that it extends into the blown condition of the air bag provided in the forward direction, predominantly behind a shoulder joint (21) of the passenger. An independent claim is included for a vehicle seat arrangement with a back rest.
