The transaxle has a housing (12) comprising a wall (106) extending between other walls (102, 104). A transmission input member (14) is permanently coupled with carrier members (20B) of a planetary gear set (20). A transmission output member (16) is permanently coupled with planet carrier members (22B, 24B) of other planetary gear sets (22, 24). A power transfer member e.g. belt, rotatably couples the former and one of the other transfer gears for transferring rotational energy from the former gear to the latter gear. Two pairs of gears are rotatably fixed to pairs of road wheels, respectively.
