The drive train (5) has a drive unit controlled by a control unit and comprising a dual-weighted flywheel operatively connected with a drive shaft. State values of the flywheel are input in the control unit. A controller (1) has control modules (2, 3) for compensating subharmonic oscillations during load and no-load operation of an engine, and a control module (4) for compensating jerk motions and/or for controlling the idle speed in state space formed by the state values based on a system model of the drive train. The model exhibits characteristics of the engine and the flywheel. An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling a drive train.
