The invention relates to a method for producing a sandwich-type composite structure consisting in producing a three-dimensional blank (E) for forming a central core of said composite structure by means of a rigid form (1), in placing a plurality of joining spherical hollow balls (10.1, 10.2,... 10.i...) according to selected diameters and geometrical arrangement which are determined by calculation, wherein each ball is deformable and contains at least one type of functional agent, in securing the spherical balls in the respective positions thereof in such a way that a non-rigid unitary handable assembly which forms the three-dimensional blank (E) is produced. The thus produced three-dimensional blank (E) is, afterwards, disposed between two skins (20, 21) and the assembly is placed in a hot pressing mould (M) in order to obtain a composite structure (S) whose internal honeycomb core (32) is formed by shaping the balls of said three-dimensional blank. A composite structure obtainable by the inventive method is also disclosed.
